Alas, the roses pictured in today's post are no more.... I removed them all last fall except for the cherry meidilands which weren't yet in bloom to the right in the above photo. In their place, I installed a few conifers including a Taylor's Sunburst pine and also an Acer palmatum 'Trompenburg'. The goal is still to simplify the gardening around here over the course of the next few years, particularly if I'm unable to regain full use of my right arm. I'll be seeing the surgeon again this coming Tuesday, hopefully we can develop a plan to get past the arm situation. At any rate, I thought I'd post a few of these photos that I recently discovered from last season...

The arbor fence has also been home to Magic Fountain delphiniums for some years. These are reasonably long lasting plants for us, but after some years tend to die out. With that in mind, I ordered seeds from New Zealand last summer of the New Millennium hybrids which are said to have much greater longevity. I did have some germination problems, but I was able to install several small plants along the split rail fence beside the arbor and I hope they all have managed the winter ok. Following are a couple photos of the Magic Fountains...

I'll close today with photos of my cherry meidiland roses which I elected to keep as I like the way they arch about the little stone wall that sits to their side.... I also thought I'd mentioned some new hellebores that I've had the opprortunity to order. In addition to three of the Ivory Prince cultivar, I've ordered several from the Winters Thrillers series. These include three of Ice Follies, three of Red Racer, and three of Pink Parachutes. If they measure up to their descriptions, they should be quite amazing. Mature plants supposedly produce 100 three inch blooms and the colors are quite amazing. They also fit in well with my plans for simplifying the gardens with plants that demand less care. Here's those photos of Cherry Meidiland... have a great day! Larry
