Yes they did call it a blizzard! The winds were gusting to 50 mph but we were 'snug as a bug' once the winds turned to the northwest. There is nothing like a windbreak to protect a place and I'm very thankful that I had the foresight to plant ours... in fact, we've really planted conifers in 'layers', thereby in essence designing the placement of snow drifts for protection of the gardens. Where we don't have the needed trees, I've built fences and we end up having piles of snow in all the right places. After I completed clearing all the snow that was in the wrong places (the driveway, for example!), the sun came out and I was able to get a couple pictures. I'm sure these will not be any surprise to those of you living in the areas hit by this storm... it was a big snow maker! And I have to say I am very grateful... with the coldest temps of the season coming over the next couple days, our gardens are wonderfully insulated against the cold! Larry
p.s. I've included a photo of the Tiger Eye Abutilon which is starting to flower with many more blooms than it had while planted in the garden this summer... I'll also be continuing with the conifer series in the next day or so...
