I thought I'd share these two plants of Brassolaeliocattleya Ports of Paradise 'Emerald Isle'. This cultivar was first hybridized in 1970 and blooms twice a year. I find the bright chartreuse yellow and frilled petals to be amazing and the fragrance even more so. The blooms are about six inches and there are three per stalk.
We've just returned home from a bit of a get-away and have been informed we didn't miss much in terms of the weather. It was very windy, cold, and rainy... but wait! It gets worse! Tomorrow we are forecast very windy, cold, and 6-10" of heavy blowing snow... can you believe it!! It is concerning and disappointing but at least it's not tornados like last week and sadly as the southeast experienced this week. Such difficult times... I can't imagine how hard it must be for so many.
After being away, the only changes that were noticeable were the hellebores. After experiencing their being flattened last season, I covered them all with large containers this evening in preparation for the blizzard.
Take care, Larry
