I am so impressed with these 'Little Plum' series Lewisia x longipetala. I've read that they will self seed in certain conditions, but I'm going for summer long bloom, so will continue to dead head. Since this is my first experience with them, I have little idea what to expect.

Another diminuitive plant that I've come to enjoy in the rockery are the iris cristatas... here are a couple that I grow.

Camassia
I added a few varieties of camassia this past fall... of course I neglected to tag them so I've managed to lose track of their names already. These are a U.S. native commonly known as Wild Hyacinth or Quamash. These bulbs were harvested for food by early native Americans.

A very special part of the late May garden and Memorial Day is the fernleaf peony. I'm talking 'Rubra Plena' with it's blood red double blooms and finely divided foliage... given full sun and cold winters, this plant never fails to please...
The azaleas have come on fast and after today's 90 degree heat, I expect they've really progressed since these photos taken yesterday...

We may be able to pull a few more days bloom out of our lilacs and flowering crabs, but they are rapidly fading ...
