Early June has turned to days in the 90's with no substantial rain in several weeks... the tree lilac fades from white to bronzed tones and the peony blooms are but a memory. Shrub roses bloom heavily and fade quickly in the dry heat as the gardener carries water through the grounds in five gallon pails for the thirstiest of plants, generally those newest to this place. Hoses run in a maze of trails through the garden beds, dispersing water through the warm nights in an effort to stay ahead of the drought that could lead to the demise of beauty. And the gardener wonders... is it to be one of those years? We have come through this before and will again.... Larry
