Now that all the Christmas concerts are past and special church services are done, I've found more time to get back in the glass studio. In addition to the large sun catcher above, I pulled my latest commission off the form this evening. This 16" Tiffany Reproduction Dragonfly will be displayed on a high end reproduction bronze and mosaic base. I chose contemporary colors in the greens that the client requested. The use of turquoise will be picked up in the iridescence of the mosaic tiles in the base. There are at least a couple days left with the interior of the shade needing to be soldered, clean up, and patination. I will share additional photos when the piece is completed. After that, I have a large original design shade that needs to be finished as soon as possible, as well as a transom commission and more lamp shades. I'm anxious to be caught up so that I can add a couple shades to my collection as well before the gardening season begins.
We are on the cold side here with a low of minus seven degrees last night... What a change in the past forty years... I recall many nights of minus 30 degrees around the New Year's holiday when we first called Oak Lawn home. I am very pleased that we have a deep snow cover and I doubt that the soil is even frozen beneath its insulating blanket.
Happy New Year!
Larry
