More and more lilies are opening in the gardens, mostly LO's and Orienpets. Some of these are being shared below for the first time while others are examples of plants reaching their peak of bloom. There is only one large concern in regard to the lilies in the garden just now. Some creature has taken large chunks out of buds of a few plants just as they are ready to open in such a way that the petals drop off immediately. If you're from the east, you're probably thinking red lily beetle, but they are not in this part of the country to the best of my knowledge and I suspect that if they were, we'd see them during the day. My bigger suspicion is earwigs... it's been a horrible year for them and some plants such as my Cora series vinca have been decimated by them. I have spread earwig bait about... I hate the stuff, but you do what you have to do, and no further damage is apparent. This morning I did catch a robin messing with the lilies, but I doubt that is the culprit.
