Scheduled for Sunday, July 21, 2013... 2:00 p.m. until dark
If you are available, we'd love to have you take a stroll through the gardens. The weather forecast looks like the weekend will cool down and this extreme humidity will wane... bring a lawn chair if you like and sit and visit a spell... we always love these informal get-togethers!
If you live in Wisconsin, you know this is a tough week for garden work. Personally, I am not accustomed to temps around 90 degrees and dew points in the 70's. On top of that, there hasn't been a breath of a breeze. None-the-less, I am continuing to weed, deadhead, edge, and spread mulch while trying to remain hydrated and avoiding getting over heated. There are frequent breaks in the air conditioning so it's taking twice as long to get everything done!
While I'd prefer to be working in my cool (as in temp) workshop or glass studio, I'm on a deadline for completing what I can. "Country Gardens" magazine will arrive Friday evening to begin the photo shoot, if the severe storms that are predicted miss us, and will continue the project early Saturday morning. I am really looking forward to this but have been obsessing for days as to whether the gardens will be up to par.
Such are the trials of the perfectionist... I visit other gardens and return to our own thinking that it measures up nicely, but by the next morning I see a hundred things that to my way of thinking need to be dealt with and improved upon...but alas, enough of that... there will be plenty of hemerocallis blooms brought on by the warmth of this week. So too the orienpets hopefully... I would prefer that the delphiniums last indefinitely and some may still be nice by the weekend, but the cycles of nature are still at work here at Oak Lawn... I might just as well accept it!
At any rate... I do know that some of you who read my posts come to our 'open gardens' upon occasion and we do enjoy meeting and visiting with you... perhaps Sunday afternoon!

Alas... is that a cooling breeze and a few clouds I spy out the window? Off to the chain saw in addition to the mulch pile, having thought of another chore that needs my attention...
