I find myself in a bit of a bloom slump every year between the Siberian irises and the asiatic lilies. I have come to realize that martagon lilies could add much interest during this period of a week or so. I am pretty new to martagons... my 'Russian Morning' cultivar bulbs are just into their 3rd or 4th year and other cultivars are headed into their second season. Martagons can be a bit slow to develop and often don't even show the first season after a fall planting. They will take shade and mature clumps can sport many stalks to as much as five or six feet in height, each with a display of up to fifty glorious blooms. I absolutely love the 'candlelabra' form. I have made huge and hopefully permanent changes to the gardens for the past several years... it's really getting time to tweak the design... add the bits and pieces that make a garden truly interesting, attention to detail and all that... martagons are a true gem in any garden...

What's to come... delphiniums are preparing to bloom... rains pretty much daily... starting to be concerned for some of the orienpets such as 'Silk Road' as buds are slightly yellow...
