Iris pseudata 'Chance Beauty'...
these are newer hybrids of non-bearded iris in the form of a cross between Iris pseudacorus and Iris ensata (Japanese iris). Their preferences include full sun, moderate moisture is ok although they will grow in water, and they are heavy feeders. In water they can grow to 5' and in the garden 3-4' is more common. The thrust of this hybridization is to introduce yellows into the color palette of Japanese irises and it's being accomplished beautifully. These plants are also sterile which means they won't take over waterways... This year's heavy rains have made my offshoot from my original plant of 'Chance Beauty' pictured here, really outdo itself. I am impressed that it fills a void in Oak Lawn's bloom schedule, coming just after Siberian irises and prior to delphiniums and asiatic lilies. Prices are improving on these selections and I plan on adding others... Larry
