Intermediate iris in 2010 |
You are looking at the very driest area of my gardens... this area does not look the way I'd like it to I'm afraid. I actually liked it better in 2003, but it has gotten much drier as these trees have grown a lot and take up all the moisture. That does, however create an environment that the intermediate and dwarf irises really like. My original goal was to have this entire embankment covered with the various creeping phloxes... I know now that will never happen for two reasons... first as already mentioned it's too dry and probably not sunny enough any more. Secondly, virtually everything I plant here gets dug out by creatures be they skunks, raccoons, or possums.... I've observed all three here. The next photo is from 2003 in keeping with the theme I started a couple posts back...

In 2003 the 'magnolia circle' was but a collection of small plants... see the center of the photo especially |

Note the Spring Snow magnolias behind and to the right of the hollyhocks are now 15' tall in 2010 |

In 2003 Flame flowering crab was fairly mature... I've always liked that Hosta Montana Aureomarginata always starts to expand at the same time Flame comes into bloom |
 |
In 2010 I could still count on this, one of my favorite combinations |

Take care! Larry |
