... it really is October 14th afterall. We were so confused... it felt like early July with days of temperatures in the 70's. We really didn't wish to consider that it would soon end, but it has. As we finish projects in the gardens, we are tired by the cold gusts of 45 mph winds that make the head ache with the chill.
Here and there in protected nooks of the rock garden, primula that I seeded last winter show their first blooms as a a reminder that spring will bring many blooms never experienced before... it's only a six month wait after all...
The sweet alyssum likes the cold and its blooms are richer in color than any other time in its season.

Here and there an impatiens plant has avoided the frost and looks the better for having done so.
The last of the shrub and tree plantings have been completed, and all around there are leaves to be mulched... but first they will be romped and played in with visiting grandchildren, returning to Grandma and Grandpa's after too long an absence.
May you also enjoy a special weekend... Larry
