Once in a very long while, everything comes together to create that perfect moment in the gardens. I actually experienced many such moments this evening as I was drawn away from the discouragements of the world and became fully immersed in my own little piece of creation....
Autumn was at it's best... the temperature at 70 degrees fahrenheit, a light breeze, perfect light, the scent of the fall, and the kind of quiet that can only be experienced in the country...
As I wandered about and soaked it all in, I was amazed at how the world had changed in the course of a mere twenty-four hours, and there was no better surprise than the discovery that the Acer pseudosieboldianum (Korean Maple) was at full peak. This has to rate highly amongst all colored maples and it is spectacular this season.
This is also the season of ash tree perfection.
The neighbor's Autumn Purple ash grows totally unobstructed while mine, planted at the same time, is much taller as it reaches for light, also beautiful with its unique personality...
I've also been totally impressed with the Amelanchier canadensis (service berry or shadbush) this season. To what can I attribute all the spectacular fall colors that are so prevalent this year... personally I think it could have something to do with the very cold frosty temps a couple weeks ago followed by this amazing week and a half of unseasonal warmth.
I love to borrow views from the neighbors and right now it is the summit ash trees that are providing the background to many of my own colorful plants...
The mums are creating their own show as they reach their full potential.... what a delight to experience the many chance combinations I've created by just combining a bit of this plant and a bit of that last spring... they all work well together!
As the day came to an end, I marveled at how lovely the sky was as a jet traveled high above me and the colors around me changed in the fading light. I sincerely hope you all are experiencing the glories of October... they are so fleeting and all the more memorable for it.
Take care, Larry
