Project updates: yesterday we installed 21 'Green Mountain' boxwoods around the gazebo... I like the look already!
Today my wife finished clearing most of the annuals and vines from the gardens with the exception of a few spots being retained for late season color. I managed to wrap all the tree trunks that will need the protection this winter. We did some mulching and also moved four large hardy hibiscus to sunnier environs. Our son showed up later in the day with chain saws in hand and we got busy removing trees and creating a new canvas for next year in one portion of the gardens. Among the trees cut and carted away were...
1. a 35 year old Vanguard flowering crab
2. a 25 year old eastern hemlock
3. two ten foot chamaecyparis
4. a 20' katsura tree
5. two 16' arborvitaes
6. a 20 year old Maakia amurensis tree
7. a large lilac
More tree removals will take place tomorrow after church... so far I'm pleased with the results... hoping my resolve stays intact.
