Helebore season is here again, basically a month earlier than last year. It's interesting that the doubles seem to be farther along than most of the singles. From a photography point of view, this could well be the most difficult portion of the gardening season... so many of the blooms facing down means a lot of rolling around on the ground, camera in hand... since I prefer focusing manually on close-ups, the task becomes even more daunting. Here are a few of the helebores presently coming into bloom here at Oak Lawn...
The other predominant blooms in the gardens just now, continue to be those of the croci...
We also have our earliest daffodil to bloom... last year it opened on April 11th so we are pretty close to a month ahead of schedule...
These have been beautiful days in the mid to upper 70's. I have been getting lots done in the gardens. The post holes for the new rustic fence have all been dug and the lumber purchased and carted home. I will complete the placing of the 4x4's after church tomorrow as our son is planning on giving me a hand.
I've also been moving plants about the gardens and have several more to deal with in that regard. It just feels so good to be back working in the ground and I love every minute of it despite the aches and pains that frequent my evenings after a full day outside.
Is it too much to hope for... that we may remain frost free from here on out? The magnolia buds are swelling and this could be a problem year with spring being so early. As the song says... "Ya take the good, ya take the bad"...
And take care as well, Larry
