Chionodoxa is one of my favorite early spring bulbs, due mainly to this color that I love.
I almost forgot about my Daphne mezereum plants that are in a hidden spot in the gardens where I seldom go... sure enough they were in bloom when I went to check them out.
I discovered this double hellebore in the gardens today... I'm sure it has probably bloomed in the past but this is the first time I recall seeing it, although I have noticed others in different locations that have a similar look ...
One of my favorite hellebores is Ivory Prince and they are all just coming into bloom... their beautiful and yet subtle colors are like an essay on earth tones...
Here's another hellebore that I ran across today... it was quite breezy in much of the garden making photography difficult, but this was in a quiet spot.
This Stellata magnolia is the first to have an open flower, but these days of 80 degrees have brought many magnolias along and blooms of numerous trees will be opening tomorrow.
The generic 'King Alfred' daffodils are among the first to bloom, accompanied here by scilla...
As noted in a recent post this daffodil was the very first to open, close to a full month earlier than last season. It's a fairly small bloom that is quite showy in the garden.

I also noticed today that the dogwood buds are swelling and it should be a beautiful year for them.
That's what's new in the gardens today. I am having no difficulty getting to sleep these nights, after days filled with moving plants about the gardens along with all the other spring 'chores'... however, I do not consider this work to be a chore... it's awesome being outside for 10 to 12 hours each day, even if I am lame and tired when the day is through. My hope is that you all get to be in your gardens as much as you would like... it's definitely a blessing! Larry
