2012 in bloom... post #4

I'd like to say we had another nice spring day, however 80 degree temps feel more like summer to me. One more day of this warmth and then things will head down to the 60's during the day and around 40 at night. This is perfect as all the opening blooms will last much longer.

A new hellebore to me and planted last season is Ice Follies from the Winter Thrillers series. The blooms are very large and face out for the most part. I am impressed and  have ordered many more from this series for planting this spring.

I am still finding double hellebores that are blooming for the first time... while many are similar at first glance, closer inspection allows for some lovely yet subtle differences.

Warm weather seems to make a big difference in the color of the hellebores this year... here is a case in point with a hellebore from the 'Lady' series... I'm quite certain it's Red Lady but you certainly can't tell by looking at it... first as it looks this season and secondly a photo from last season... not the best year for hellebore color by any means!

Last year...

This magnolia with blooms just opening was open last year on May 8th... that means we're close to seven weeks early this season... wow...

The next photo was shot this morning... the one following (same area of the same stellata magnolia)was shot this evening...

Here is an example of a bloom of Royal Star, followed by Spring Snow...
