Early magnolias are at their peak right now and I've never seen them look this good in all the years that I've grown them. Maybe it's the 80 degree temps but the whites are pure, blossoms are full and large, and bountiful.

Scilla are in full bloom just now and they accompany the early magnolias beautifully...
One of my nicest surprises so far this season, is a little plant of Magnolia 'Pink Perfection'. It had a couple blooms last season and I wasn't all that impressed... but this season it's a totally different story. The blooms are like small pom poms of pink and the petal count is amazing! Just imagine a large specimen with hundreds of these blooms...
A negative side to having days of 80 degrees this early in the year, is that the hellebores have generally faded colors compared with cooler years... here's photos of the pathway that is edged in hellebores...
The Ivory Prince hellebores are at prime right now and primulas are starting to bloom at various spots in the gardens...

A number of midseason magnolias are starting to bloom as well, including some of the soulangianas...

It is early for our daffodils, although we do have some in bloom...
I visited a friend's garden 100 miles to the south yesterday and his daffodils were considerably farther along than mine... I'll close with a few shots from his beautiful woodland gardens... Larry
