I have really been doing battle with myself as to whether to have open gardens or not... it really has been way too hot to do the things I normally try to get done on a regular basis in the gardens. My electrophysiologist has informed me that there is no way I should be working in this heat considering my heart problems.
So... we've decided to have open gardens on Sunday (July 8th) from 1 p.m. until dark even if there may be an occasional weed or a plant that needs deadheading. Those of you who are local and regularly check out these posts are certainly invited, along with anyone else you'd like to bring. In fact all are welcome... we've put the word out to a number of plant groups and churches... the more the merrier! If you want to hang out and visit some, you may wish to bring along a lawn chair.
We had such a fun time last year and I'm sure that folks can understand that there are a lot of things that aren't in our power to control with the odd weather this year... extreme cold and extreme hot, no rain and so on...

While many lilies are in bloom now, certainly some of these will have faded by Sunday...
On the other hand... tomorrow's 100 degrees and Friday's close second will surely bring on many of these buds that are ready to pop... I'm predicting some pretty good fragrance permeating the gardens on Sunday afternoon...
The annuals are starting to fill out pretty well also...
Daylily blooms abound despite the fact that a lot of the foliage looks poorly this year, be it from the early cold or getting too dry... it's hard to know where the problem lies...

If you come be sure to explore some of the paths and the many uncommon trees growing here...
Hope to see some of you on Sunday! Larry
