We have had a pretty unsettled week weather-wise, including several inches of rain and straight-line winds. The peony blooms succumbed but the Siberian irises are blooming better than they have in several years... In fact I was ready to divide the lot of them, thinking crowding might be the problem... it's now obvious that it's water they crave...
I apologize for the poor quality of these photos... I had to use a sports setting as the wind is howling... on the upside, our horde of mosquitoes appear to have been blown into the next county, so working outside has been lots more pleasurable.
I was amazed at the development of many of the plants in the gardens over the course of the last two days... I'd had some other appointments and was unable to be as attentive as normal. Some of the delphiniums had grown suddenly to several feet in height and then lodged with the wind and rain... I spent several hours this morning staking and arranging their stems in a semblance of order...
One of these years I'm finally going to realize these gardens are a full time job and more... I should just figure that for about three months, this is about all I can do with my time... all the plans for finishing the kitchen and bathroom renewals, stained glass commitments, vacations, etc. just aren't getting done... after all, nature waits for the frivolities of no man...
So you may ask, why am I blogging... well... good question.... usually I work at that after dark, but when my arthritic back kicks in, the best solution is to sit for a half hour or so... hope you enjoy this post of pain relief therapy! Larry
